This November 12, the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) will be having their 55th Annual Convention coinciding with the CAOC’s Annual Installation and Awards Dinner, where the winners will be revealed for the 2016 CAOC Awards. One of the nominated finalists, a lawyer who supports the little guy, is Jeffrey F. Ryan. Ryan was nominated due to his excellent work in recovering money for taxpayers originally deceived by corporate fraud. Ryan spent nearly 5 years, working together with Niall P. McCarthy and Justin T. Berger, to help and support Dane Smith, a former Vice President of a worldwide technology company. Near the end of those five years the federal government aided Jeffrey Ryan as well, once more proof against the company was brought to light.
After Dane Smith discovered that the company he worked for was overcharging the federal government for goods and services, his supervisors fired him and at times he feared for his life. After his wrongful termination Dane Smith came to Ryan, who commended Dane on his bravery to put his professional and personal reputation on the line. The whistleblower case resulted in $75 million in damages to be paid to the US government and earned 20% qui tam award for Dane Smith. The Law office of Jeffrey F.
