Jeffrey Ryan, Lawyer Nominated as a Finalist in 2016 CAOC Awards

Jeffrey Ryan, attorney at law, applies what he learned in his freshman year of cross country to the court room. Cross country taught Jeffrey Ryan that when things get hard, you shouldn’t give up. All it takes is practice and the ability to run your own race to make it to the end of the finish line. By perseverance, good faith, and refusing to give up he has been able to work in the best interests of his clients, the law, and the courts.

This November 12, the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) will be having their 55th Annual Convention coinciding with the CAOC’s Annual Installation and Awards Dinner, where the winners will be revealed for the 2016 CAOC Awards. One of the nominated finalists, a lawyer who supports the little guy, is Jeffrey F. Ryan. Ryan was nominated due to his excellent work in recovering money for taxpayers originally deceived by corporate fraud. Ryan spent nearly 5 years, working together with Niall P. McCarthy and Justin T. Berger, to help and support Dane Smith, a former Vice President of a worldwide technology company. Near the end of those five years the federal government aided Jeffrey Ryan as well, once more proof against the company was brought to light.

After Dane Smith discovered that the company he worked for was overcharging the federal government for goods and services, his supervisors fired him and at times he feared for his life. After his wrongful termination Dane Smith came to Ryan, who commended Dane on his bravery to put his professional and personal reputation on the line. The whistleblower case resulted in $75 million in damages to be paid to the US government and earned 20% qui tam award for Dane Smith. The Law office of Jeffrey F. Ryan proved that it acts in the best interests of its clients, the law, and the courts. The law office also focuses on business litigation in the areas of employment law, business disputes, trade secret litigation, intellectual property litigation, and insurance bad faith litigation.

Jeffrey F. Ryan has been a civil litigation attorney for 28 years and counting. He achieved his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Santa Clara and has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1987. His running experience in high school taught him to never give up and that all it takes is practice and perseverance to achieve his goals.

Jeffrey F. Ryan, Esq. – Defending the ‘Little Guys’

For the past 28 years, attorney at law Jeffrey Ryan has made a name for himself in the courtroom as a tenacious litigation lawyer whose primary objective is to defend the little guy against the giants and win. As someone who grew up all over the United States, as well as London, Ryan has developed a unique empathy for his fellow man that has enabled him to become one of the best trial lawyers in the Bay Area. As a student at the American School in London, Ryan’s education emphasized reading, writing, and analytical thinking, which would prove to be invaluable attributes for him when he attended law school at Santa Clara University. In 1986, he received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence, and passed the State Bar of California a year later. Ever since, he has been a defender of justice.

Ryan has successfully won several high profile cases, including a whistleblower case that resulted in a $75.5 million settlement, an insurance bad faith case where Ryan settled for policy limits of $6.2 million, and a case in the biotech industry for breach of contract and fiduciary duty for up to $5 million. Ryan’s accomplishments in the courtroom are indeed extensive, but there is one particular case he handled that demonstrates Ryan’s wholehearted commitment to defending those who are treated unfairly.

In January 2016, Jeffrey Ryan, Esq., was retained to represent a female employee of a southern California employer, who claimed that she had been wrongfully terminated after she called the police when a customer assaulted her while she was under the defendant’s employ. According to the woman’s employer, her actions compromised his business, which is why he terminated her employment. In general, going up against a large and strong company as an individual can be a very difficult and stressful process. But making sure that his clients get what they deserve is exactly why Ryan became a litigation lawyer in the first place.

Through his legal expertise and perseverance, Ryan eventually settled the sexual harassment/wrongful termination case for $8 million. Ryan faced many difficulties during this trial, such as the fact that there is no legal precedent in California where an employer is found liable for wrongful termination of an employee who called the police when a customer, rather than a co-worker, assaulted the employee. This case was a first of its kind, exemplifying the kind of determination and “refusing to give up” attitude that has made Ryan such a reputable attorney.

Jeffrey Ryan, Attorney at Law – The Importance of Teamwork in Civil Litigation

For Jeffrey F. Ryan Esq., the opportunity to defend the rights of all citizens equally, especially the underdogs of society, is one of the main ideas that drove him to become a civil litigation attorney almost three decades ago. Ryan, who was born in Cincinnati, but grew up all over the United States and in London, currently owns his own law firm in Redwood City, California. Ryan and his team at the Law Offices of Jeffrey F. Ryan understand that legal battles can be tough, which is why they have dedicated themselves to representing the little guy against the giants – the protector of Davids in a world of Goliaths.

Ryan’s ability to connect with his clients and represent them fearlessly and tenaciously is what he has built his reputation on, but surprisingly, this ability was not only cultivated through the cutthroat environment of the courtroom, but also from a much more encouraging sphere: sports. Ryan has been a sports fan since he was a young boy watching the LA Rams play football on his best friend’s television. Having remained a Rams fan for 50 years, Ryan understands that level of commitment and loyalty that true sports fans exhibit – qualities he incorporates into his law practice as well.

In addition to watching sports at every chance he gets, Jeffrey Ryan, solicitor, is also an accomplished athlete himself. In high school, he became a highly competitive tennis player at Corona del Mar high school, where he played against nationally ranked players. With Ryan’s help, Corona del Mar led the CIF 4A Tennis for eight years in a row, outdoing even La Costa, who had Mexican Olympic players on their team. His senior year of high school, Ryan’s family moved to London, where he played for the American School and successfully competed in the International Sports School Tournament.

Watching and participating in sports is more than just a hobby for Ryan – it’s a microcosmic representation of the society we live in, where a person’s level of hard work and dedication determines his or her success in life. As a civil litigation attorney, Ryan has spent the majority of his career representing clients from all walks of life, in circumstances of varying degrees of difficulty. By hiring Ryan, clients become a part of his legal team – a concept whose importance has been a significant part of Ryan’s entire life. No matter what kind of legal situation you’re facing, Ryan and his team have the skills and expertise to make sure you come out on top.
